Part 2: Program Summary

Provide a high level review of the program to include highlights, successes, challenges, significant changes, and significant resources needed to support the program
The welding program utilizes three forms of measurement for each competency measured. We believe this provides more consistent data to effectively make the necessary changes to the curriculum. Written Exam- All students are required to take exams. This provides the program and instructors the information to ensure all students meet the theoretical portion of the curriculum. Performance Testing- All students are consistently tested with each hands on skill set to ensure they meet the welding and fabrication requirements within the welding industry. Instructor Evaluations- Instructors randomly select days to observe students in work environment. Instructor documents any safety violations or procedure violations in these measured skill sets. Student Certifications- 95% of students who attempt a welding Certification through Bauman Industrial Labs pass on first attempt. Skills USA- CNM Welding won the gold medal at the secondary and Post secondary level at the national competition.

Part 4: Program Learning Outcome Analysis

Learning OutcomePopulation or Course(s) AssessedDescriptionSummary of Assessment Results
1. Operate and safely use basic welding hand tools and equipment in a safe manner
WELD 1020, and WELD 1570.
    2. Perform basic and advanced operations on a variety of welding machines and equipment
    WELD 1005, WELD 1020, and WELD 1570.
      1. Operate and safely use basic welding hand tools and equipment in a safe manner
      WELD 1570.
        Interpretation of Assessment findings
In weld 1570 The students that were measured exceeded the competency goals set by the welding program. Our goal was to achieve a 90% success rate in competencies measured. We observed on average 4-5 students who demonstrated small procedure infractions while performing competency 1 . This competency is measuring the students ability to safely and correctly use weld related equipment. The faculty made and implemented safety and operational videos on the equipment used. These videos are stored into the Brightspace platform and available for students to view as needed throughout the term. We have also implemented and allotted time in class for weekly operational discussions on the equipment. We feel that consistent discussion of these operational procedures have resulted in a higher percentage of students retaining these procedures.
