Part 2: Program Summary

Provide a high level review of the program to include highlights, successes, challenges, significant changes, and significant resources needed to support the program
The start-up of the CNMPSD program faced many challenges. The first attempt to run Class 1 in March/April 2020 had to be cancelled due to the outbreak of the COVID pandemic and the school shutdown. The second attempt in June was also abandoned. The first class was finally run in November 2020. Class 1 and Class 2 were run during the 2020-2021 assessment period. Although it has been a struggle to grow the program as there are other options available for communication centers, the CNMPSD is beginning to develop a positive reputation within the profession in the State of New Mexico. This fact, in conjunction with communication centers having the availability of WIOA funding to pay for their students to attend, will help foster the continued growth of the program. Thus far, 100% of the students completing the CNMPSD have successfully passed the New Mexico Public Safety Telecommunicator Certification Exam.

Summarize how your program met or did not meet the target measures based on the data above
For the 2020-2021 assessment period, the CNMPSD is averaging a fill rate of 50-55%. Due to the fact that the program is new and just ran its first class in November 2020, the fill rate is lower than preferred. There is also the fact that the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy runs 3-4 telecommunicator classes per year. The retention rate is 100% as all 21 students starting the program during Fall 2020-Spring 2021 have successfully completed it and passed the certification exam. The C-pass rate for coursework is also 100%.
