Part 2: Program Summary

Provide a high level review of the program to include highlights, successes, challenges, significant changes, and significant resources needed to support the program
Highlights & Successes: The program was ranked #2 RT Program in the Nation by accreditedonlineschools.org. We also received our 4th Distinguished RRT Credentialing Success Award for our RRT credentialing exam scores. In August, we graduated 10 students who are currently taking their national examinations. Challenges: COVID-19 guidelines continue to be the most prevalent challenge. We lost a few students due to the pandemic, which impacted the total number of graduates for the Class of 2021. In addition, clinical schedules have also been cumbersome considering the clinical sites being very cautious with students. Changes: We have permanently moved all pathology classes and pharmacology to the online platform. We do not anticipate moving those courses back to a face-to-face course at this time. We also decreased the number of students enrolled in the program in January 2021 due to the restrictions from the clinical sites.

10 out of 10 students successfully completed the program in August 2021. The graduates are currently taking their national board examinations. At this time, 7 graduates have successfully completed the CSE exam (RRT credential), and 9 graduates have completed the TMC exam. Once we achieve 90% passing the CSE, we will receive the Distinguished RRT Credentialing Success Award again.

10 out of 10 students successfully completed the last term in the program and graduated in August 2021. 21 students began the program in this cohort. 3 students have recently returned to the program. 6 students dropped the program within weeks of the program starting in January 2021 due to other academic interests. One student dropped due to academic reasons, and the last student did not return to Term 2 due to COVID concerns. The 10 graduates successfully completed all practical examinations that consisted of rigorous testing on their knowledge and psychomotor skills in respiratory therapy.
Interpretation of Assessment findings
Unfortunately, the Class of 2021 had a lot of turnover due to multiple reasons. However, we successfully graduated 10 students in August. They are currently taking their national examinations. We are at a 70% pass rate for the RRT credential. We are at a 90% pass rate for the TMC exam. Two students are scheduled to take the CSE (RRT credential exam) at the end of October. If they achieve a passing score, the program will receive its fifth Distinguished RRT Credentialing Success Award. There is also a student who has yet to begin the testing process due to health reasons.

Part 5: Additional Action Plan in Support of Student Learning (If Appropriate)

Upcoming YearChanges Planned for the upcoming yearData Motivating this change
2021-2022
We have submitted a change in enrollment request to CoARC. We are hoping to decrease the class size to 16 students from 24, but have a rolling process where the program begins a new cohort every two months. This would entail having two cohorts on a consistent basis.
There has been a decreasing number of applicants for the program over the last few years. The program is trying to increase interest by providing a start time every two terms as opposed to once a year. This will also allow class instructors to work closely with each student due to the smaller class size. Also, NBRC is expecting a 19% increase in respiratory therapists by the year 2029. By having smaller class sizes, we are hopeful that we can improve knowledge and psychomotor skills with each student and improving the retention rate.
2021-2022
We are currently in the process of creating an articulation agreement with Kansas University Medical Center. This will provide a bridge for our graduates to begin a bachelor's program immediately following graduation from CNM.
NBRC projects to minimize associate programs in a 10-year time span. Programs that have bridge agreements with 4-year institutions will be granted to continue according to CoARC.
