Part 2: Program Summary
Provide a high level review of the program to include highlights, successes, challenges, significant changes, and significant resources needed to support the program |
---|
1. AVMT Fall 2020: 11 Students began the General Curriculum.
2. AVMT Spring 2021: 7 Students began the General Curriculum.
3. AVMT Spring 2021 Graduates: 11 Powerplant Certificates.
This assessment cycle began in the Summer of 2020. Due to COVID, Summer 2020 Airframe courses were cancelled. As a result, this is the first cycle where students completed the Powerplant certificate before the Airframe Certificate. The General Courses are a perquisite for the Powerplant courses. Hybrid courses consisting of face to face lab sessions and online theory sessions was the mode of instruction. Online learning was a first for Powerplant due to COVID restrictions. |

---|
11 out of 13 students completed the Powerplant Certificate. Two students who failed one course in last year's cycle returned to complete one course in order to graduate. The core group began the program before COVID. There was high attrition in their General courses, 8/25 students passed, last cycle. AT and an AVMT instructor offered an intersession make up course which brought the total back to 13 eligible graduates. Two students failed in the Spring 2021 term bringing to the total number of Powerplant Certificates to 11 for this cycle. |
Part 4: Program Learning Outcome Analysis
Learning Outcome | Population or Course(s) Assessed | Description | Summary of Assessment Results |
---|---|---|---|
FAA Powerplant Exam | Powerplant Certificate |
| The pass rate for the FAA Powerplant written exam is 3 out of 3 students, 100%. The average test score is 88%. |
Powerplant Written Final | Powerplant Certificate |
| The pass rate for Powerplant is 11 out of 13 students, 85%. The data for the test average is not available. Students tested internally with a different exam. |
Interpretation of Assessment findings |
---|
Internal testing and online learning affected the number of students who passed the General Curriculum. The General courses are a prerequisite to the Powerplant courses. The internal attrition problem was due to internal testing methods and online learning. 11 out of 13 Students passed the Powerplant Curriculum. A low number of students, three, tested with the FAA this cycle. Those students who tested scored above the national average. |
Part 5: Additional Action Plan in Support of Student Learning (If Appropriate)
Upcoming Year | Changes Planned for the upcoming year | Data Motivating this change |
---|---|---|
2021-2022 | Our program continues to discuss attrition rates. Online learning changed as a result. Brightspace training was offered to Faculty through the CARES program. More face to face classes are being offered as well to retain students. | 7/11 (64%) Students passed Airframe and Powerplant to be eligible for the AAS, Summer 2021.
2/11 ( 18%) Students passed the General Curriculum, Fall 2020.
4/7 (56%) Students passed the General Curriculum, Spring 2021.
All of these courses were online/hybrid. |
2021-2022 | Our program needs to discuss internal testing methods again. Previously, our department and administration identified testing as a contributing factor to the high attrition rates. The
FAA instructor’s handbook, FAA-H-8083-9A, provides examples for writing exams. | 7/11 (64%) Students passed Airframe and Powerplant to be eligible for the AAS, Summer 2021.
2/11 ( 18%) Students passed the General Curriculum, Fall 2020. |
2021-2022 | Our program needs a formal process to discuss student feedback. CNM offers the Small Group Instructional Diagnosis (SGID) which provides a third-party method of gathering
student feedback. This method or one similar would be helpful in discussing methods for improving student learning. This can provide an objective standard to identify and
discuss best Instructional practices.
