Part 2: Program Summary

Provide a high level review of the program to include highlights, successes, challenges, significant changes, and significant resources needed to support the program
The Certificate attracted many students who were eagerly looking forward to employment in veterinary and animal care fields. By Summer 2022, VT 1005 (Veterinary Receptionist Basic Skills) and VT 1011 (Introduction to the Veterinary Profession) had both returned to being fully face to face courses (following the disruption to on-line during Covid restrictions). Face to face instructional experience is preferred by the students, and student success appeared to be increased in both courses. Attendance issues still seem to be problematic for some students in each course (either on-line or face to face). The unfortunate situations are when students cease coming to classes and doing work after midterm or at the time of the 'last day instructors can drop a student for non-attendance'. Then data reflects poor grade completion, but the students had just ceased attending. Employers continue to reach out to the Veterinary Technology Program seeking skilled employees, indicating demand for Certificate graduates.

Summarize how your program met or did not meet the target measures based on the data above
In Fall 2021, Spring 2022, and Summer 2022 data was: Average class fill rate was at 50%. Explained below. Annual retention rate was 87% - exceeded the target measure. Annual C-pass rate was 74% - exceeded the target measure. Annual number of graduates was 22 - exceeded the target measure. Regarding the fill rate, Fall and Spring were held 100% on-line due to Covid restrictions for face to face classes. Students were not as eager to participate in on-line instruction. Also, during the Covid restrictions advertising for the Certificate was not as vigorous. Considering the lower enrollment, the number of Certificates awarded was still very good. For Fall 2022, enrollment has increased. The Veterinary Receptionist Certificate continues to meet student desires for education, and perspective employer needs.

Part 4: Program Learning Outcome Analysis

Learning OutcomePopulation or Course(s) AssessedDescriptionSummary of Assessment Results
Assess various career paths and paraprofessional opportunities in the veterinary profession
VT 1005

    VT 1005
      Interpretation of Assessment findings
The observation project continues to serve well as a capstone for the Certificate, and is a brief 'service learning' experience. Students generally state that the project increased their desire for the profession and that the observations were satisfying experiences. Throughout the course, customer service skills are highlighted and activities reinforce the learning outcomes. Veterinary offices and animal care facilities are seeking and advertising for 'customer service representatives' and the skills for client and customer communication are greatly sought after in the industry. VT 1005 is the course assessed for the Certificate Learning Outcomes, although there are 4 courses required for the Veterinary Receptionist Certificate. VT 1011 is part of the Certificate, but it is also a required course for the Associate Degree. The Learning Outcomes have been successfully met.

Part 5: Additional Action Plan in Support of Student Learning (If Appropriate)

Upcoming YearChanges Planned for the upcoming yearData Motivating this change
      2021-2022
For 2022 to 2023 plan to continue offering the courses VT 1005 and VT 1011 as face to face (unless pandemic or other reasons force a return to on-line only). Courses are well supported through Brightspace, but face to face instruction is a requirement for both courses.
Looking at the enrollment numbers, face to face offering appears to increase enrollment. This data will continue to be monitored.
