Part 2: Program Summary
Provide a high level review of the program to include highlights, successes, challenges, significant changes, and significant resources needed to support the program |
---|
The program is doing much better with the return to on-campus studios. Participation, learning curve and quality are all up. There are still classes that are not being held on campus and the students are not learning as much in these, and complaining about the lack of content. Particularly the ARCH 1133 and CM 1233. Also to a lesser degree the ARCH history classes 2120 and 2125.
Studio space is crowded and difficult to access outside of regularly scheduled class time. Particularly for students who work or need additional access on the weekends. The building is also far away from the stores where supplies for classes are purchased and the Fine Arts and Design library at UNM. Main campus would be a much better fit. The vast wasteland of suburban sprawl is a terrible place to teach about how to create sustainable futures for design. This location presents many challanges. |
Part 3: Data Review
2019-2020 | 2020-2021 | 2021-2022 | |
---|---|---|---|
Annual number of graduate awards is greater than 10 | 7 | 4 | 1 |
Number of declared majors | 94 | 93 | 74 |
Average Class Size | 22 | 21.1 | 19.4 |
Annual Average Class withdrawal rate is 30% or below (SAGE 35%) | 14% | 12% | 12% |
Annual C-Pass rate for coursework is 60% or above | 74% | 69% | 68% |
Average class fill rate at 60% or above capacity within a term or over a year | 76% | 76% | 71% |
Graduate Transfer to 4-year Schools | n/a | n/a | n/a |
Full-time Faculty Coverage by Section | 43% | 57% | 20% |
Summarize how your program met or did not meet the target measures based on the data above |
---|
We are well above 60% capacity, most classes are overloaded the first week, we do see the size drop after they see that they will need to read :-(
I am assuming based on a 12% withdrawal that we have an 82% retention.
68% C pass rate
It has been very difficult to maintain class loads while we were in lock down. I know we will see these numbers climb in the coming years. We are only capable of supporting a maximum of 15 students in a 1st term, so after 4 semesters it is unlikely that we would ever have a graduating class of 15 without more space and faculty.

Part 4: Program Learning Outcome Analysis
Learning Outcome | Population or Course(s) Assessed | Description | Summary of Assessment Results |
---|---|---|---|
1. Create multi-view, para-line, and perspective views, renderings, and physical models of original architectural designs for design conceptualization, schematic development, and presentation | ARCH 1115
ARCH 1122 |
Interpretation of Assessment findings |
---|
WE use a portfolio to assess this. Of the 22 portfolios I received from 2 levels of studio, I found only 1 that failed this utterly, 2 of the others had difficulty in demonstrating these techniques. The remainder were able to demonstrate satisfactory outcomes. |
