Part 2: Program Summary
Provide a high level review of the program to include highlights, successes, challenges, significant changes, and significant resources needed to support the program |
---|
Surgical Technology is a program that is greatly needed by the community. CNM is not producing enough graduates to fill the needs of the local community or the state. We have a class capacity of 12 students per cohort. It was limited to 9 during part of 2021-2022.
The graduating class of Summer 2021 and Spring 2022 both had a 100% pass rate on their board exams. These classes also exceeded the clinical case requirement set by accreditation.
During this time frame, we sent out Graduate (2021-2022) and Employer surveys (2020-2021). We had a 100% return rate on graduate surveys with a 98% satisfaction. Employer surveys had a 75% return rate with 100% satisfaction. This meets the benchmark of 50% return with 80% satisfaction.
The program is starting to struggle with retention. We started with 20 students and graduated 14 giving us a 70% retention for the year.
Employment rate was 14 out of 15 graduates found employment in the field giving us 93% employment rate.

Summarize how your program met or did not meet the target measures based on the data above |
---|
The numbers for 2021-2022 have met the threshold set by the college.
ST graduated 16 students in 2021-2022. This is an increase over the past years. There were 10 graduates in 2019-2020, and 15 graduates in 2020-2021.
The number of declared majors has dropped in 2021-2022 down to 157 compared to the 192 in 2020-2021 and the 210 in 2019-2020. We don't know where these students are in their education. We struggled in Fall 2022 to fill the class.
Our average class size has decreased from 23.9 in 2019-2020 to 22.8 in 2020-2021. We then had another drop in 2021-2022 down to 21.
The annual C-Pass met the threshold set by the college, but is the lowest in three years at 73%.
The average class fill rate has dropped over the past three years. The retention rate has also dropped. We are looking at reasons why. We see that students are not as prepared coming into the program since Intro to Surgical Tech (ST 1001) has gone DL. We are offering one F2F class in the spring and will collect data in this area. |
