Part 2: Program Summary
Provide a high level review of the program to include highlights, successes, challenges, significant changes, and significant resources needed to support the program |
---|
In my 7th year as Program Director, C-Pass Rate has remained steady in 2020-2021 of 72% to 72% to date; still above the target of 60%. Average class size have dropped from 22.6 students (2020-2021) to 20.9 students to date. Avg annual withdrawal rate of 12% (2020-2021) fell 1 % to 11% to date which is good, Avg class fill rate dropped from 80% in 2020-2021 to 75% to date, number of declared majors have dropped from 36 (2020-2021) to 35 to date. The Fitness Certificate, saw the annual number graduates awards remain steady from 8 graduates (2020-2021) to 8 graduates to date. The biggest challenge and why some of our metrics have decreased is in part due to Covid-19 affecting our Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 terms. Our program is 95% structured to be face-to-face and a “very hands on” learning environment with many lab classes offered within our program. This challenged us to construct almost all our classes be designed online which was an incredible challenge. |

Summarize how your program met or did not meet the target measures based on the data above |
---|
The Fitness Certificate Program failed to meet the target measure of 10 graduate awards with 8 graduates this 2021-2022 FY. Number of declared majors has steadily dropped the last 3 fiscal years. I expect this number to increase next fiscal year as we crawl out of this pandemic. However, the program did meet and exceed target measures of 70% or above on Annual C-Pass rate for coursework with 72% to date. Annual Average class withdrawal rate was well below the target of 30% or lower with 11% this fiscal year. The average class fill rate remained steady above the 60% target measure at 75% this 2021-2022 FY. |
Part 4: Program Learning Outcome Analysis
Learning Outcome | Population or Course(s) Assessed | Description | Summary of Assessment Results |
---|---|---|---|
2. Demonstrate a high degree of readiness to take and pass the National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Personal Trainer (NSCA-CPT) and American College of Sports Medicine's certified Personal Trainer (ASCM-cPT) certification exams by successfully completing curricular assignments and written and practical examinations based on the NSCA's Job Analysis Task List and the ACSM's 'Knowledge, Skills and Abilities. | EXSC 2990: Practicum |
| 8 total graduates, 5 students attempted the ACE-CPT Personal Training Certification Exam. All 5 students passed the test on their first try. This is a 100% pass rate. Target met at 80%. This is good news for our program as it is showing that our curriculum is preparing students to succeed in passing national certification to be a Personal Trainer. |
1. Assess an apparently healthy individual's physical fitness and health status based on industry standards. | PHED 1460: Conditioning: Personal Fitness |
| 36 students total (2 classes Fall/Spring terms): Average increase between Fitness Pre and Post Tests was 29% which means a 29% improvement in students fitness by participating in this class. Target of 15% increase was met. |
Interpretation of Assessment findings |
---|
During the last assessment report the following questions were asked and some answers were revealed: 1) In the PHED 1460 Personal Fitness class we essentially measured if our students improve there fitness while enrolled in the class. There was a 29% increase in fitness levels from the beginning (pre-fitness test) vs. end-of-term post test. 2) Are our students demonstrating a high level of readiness to take and pass the ACSM-CPT, ACE-CPT, NSCA-CPT, AFAA Primary Group Exercise and/or ACE Group Fitness Instructor certification exams by successfully completing them? This info was examined and 5 of 5 students passed national certification the first time. This is a 100% pass rate above our target rate of 80% and a direct reflection on how our program is preparing students to pass the exam and be knowledgeable and confident in the fitness field. Therefore no major curriculum changes will be done in our program at this time especially to EXSC 2990. One thing that was revealing was all tests were ACE-CPT but 1. |
