Part 2: Program Summary

Provide a high level review of the program to include highlights, successes, challenges, significant changes, and significant resources needed to support the program
Overall our cyber program is doing well. We have seen any increase in the number of declared majors from 202 last year to 232 this year. One of the most difficult thing for many cyber programs is the lab environment. These environments need to be flexible and easy to use for students and faculty. Students not only need to be able to access the lab environment from campus but also from their homes as well. Last year this was a challenge with both the environment itself and the number of labs that we had to our disposal. This year we have come a long way and this is quickly becoming one of the strengths of the program.

Our average class fill rate for the last three years has exceeded 60% at, 75% (2019-2020), 77% (2020-2021 and 71% (2021-2022)). Our annual retention rate for the last three years has equaled or exceeded 70% for all three years. Our annual C-pass rate for the last three years has exceeded 65% at 74% (2019-2020), 71% (2020-2021), 70% (2021-2020). In academic year 2019-2020 we had 6 graduates, for 2020-2021 it jumped to 24. Then in academic year 2021-2022 we had 9 graduates which is slightly below the 10.

Part 4: Program Learning Outcome Analysis

Learning OutcomePopulation or Course(s) AssessedDescriptionSummary of Assessment Results
1. Create a threat model for a given scenario, identifying assets, threats, and mitigations
CIS 2857
  • Paper
Overall students have done very well this assignment with the following score: Spring 92% Fall 94%
2. Apply principles of secure system design to host and network security scenarios
CIS 2853, CIS 2999.
  • Paper
Overall students have done very well these assignments with the following score: Spring 88% Fall 91%
3. Use derived requirements such as authentication and access control to secure systems and networks
CIS 2853
  • Homework Assignments
  • Paper
This outcome in measured in the following assignments: Create and deploy ACLs............................................................................................98% Create and deploy ip tables/Firewall.....................................................................87% Create and configure an intrusion detection system (IDS)................................85% Demonstrate Operating system hardening both for Linux and Microsoft....95% This gives us a total average score of 91% Since students are doing so well with these concepts, we feel it would be beneficial for us to add single sign on to the course materials.
4. Perform forensic analysis of systems and create a report of results
CIS 2860.
  • Homework Assignments
Students score between 98% - 81%. Students are meeting our target range and we feel that students are getting the materials and assignments are about right.
Interpretation of Assessment findings
Since last year we have add a large amount of materials to our program. We add these materials two better prepare students for the next level courses and in response for our advisory committee. Students have responded well to these additions and we are seeing an improvement in there understanding these concepts.

Part 5: Additional Action Plan in Support of Student Learning (If Appropriate)

Upcoming YearChanges Planned for the upcoming yearData Motivating this change
2021-2022
We are concerned to see that graduation rates went down from 24 last year to 9 this year. We are reviewing our program to see where the bottle neck is and what we can do to resolve it.
