Part 2: Program Summary
Provide a high level review of the program to include highlights, successes, challenges, significant changes, and significant resources needed to support the program |
---|
Our PCT Program has undergone changes in curriculum and mode of instruction to include more simulated, scenario based training in our lab settings. Feedback from our Advisory Board meetings highlighted the need for practice in communication with the health care team as it directly relates to patient safety. We have now implemented patient scenario's throughout our lab practice to include EHR documentation and communication with the health care team regarding each patient. Student improvement in this area has been identified in lab final skills evaluation as well as clinical performance in the area of Affective Domain. Challenges faced in our PCT program this cycle relate to decreased student enrollment in our courses. We have recently changed our curriculum to include Nursing Level I courses as prerequisites to PCT courses. This will allow these students that are interested in becoming a PCT the opportunity to take our PCT courses without being required to take the NA courses. |

Part 5: Additional Action Plan in Support of Student Learning (If Appropriate)
Upcoming Year | Changes Planned for the upcoming year | Data Motivating this change |
---|---|---|
2021-2022 | Our PCT Program has incorporated more simulated activities in our labs in effort to encourage and stimulate critical thinking skills in our students. We will be adding evaluation rubrics to our simulated activities to measure strengths and weaknesses in these areas which will provide us with information needed to revise curriculum. We see improvement in our clinical performance but will incorporate these evaluations to measure progress in our labs. Areas of needed improvement will focus on accurate recording of observations in the EHR and when to report observations to the nurse. | Our students have met current goals in all areas except Medical Terminology. Encouraging use of terminology in simulated activities as well as identifying terms when charting in EHR will give students more practice and experience using these terms. |
