Part 2: Program Summary

Provide a high level review of the program to include highlights, successes, challenges, significant changes, and significant resources needed to support the program
In May 2021, Health Information Technology recruited a permanent program director. CAHIIM, the accreditor, resumed the accreditation process requiring the submission of self-study by the end of the year. The curriculum needs to be updated and is a top priority due to a prolonged period of not having oversight from a permanent program director. In August 2021, before the new academic year began, the permanent Program Director stepped down. Currently, HIT is being managed by one of the HWPS Associate Deans. PT faculty will assist with updating the curriculum in HIT courses while recruitment efforts are made to secure a permanent program director.

HSM is only meeting one target measure outlined by the Dean's council, the number of declared majors. Data is only available for a few of the target measures. Improvement is needed for the annual number of graduate awards. The program has significantly suffered from a lack of oversight a Program Director has to offer.
