Part 2: Program Summary

Provide a high level review of the program to include highlights, successes, challenges, significant changes, and significant resources needed to support the program
The CNM RT Program received a 2021 credentialing success award despite our hurdles with the Pandemic restrictions. This award was our 4th award from CoArc, our accreditation. The award shows success of the program achieving a 90% passing rate on board exams from graduates of the program. Students were unable to attend a thorough clinical experience during the pandemic per hospital guidelines. Students had to have less patient care interaction when the pandemic hit the US, this was when the students were first learning assessment in their first term, which is the foundation of learning respiratory. Clinical sites tend to change the rules within their facilities often, keeping up with these rules was difficult but we embraced it. The RT program proposed a new change in student acceptance where we accept cohorts every other term. This will increase our start time availability to all students who apply and do not get into the program the first go around. Those students will only have to wait one term to reapply.

Students are required to ultimately demonstrate a role model of amazing professional behavior at all times and to represent CNM in the utmost positive way. This includes but is not limited to, professional attire, adequate hygiene, positive attitudes, time management, adequate communication skills, and teamwork. The students provide positive feedback to each other to enrich their learning experience and show respectful behaviors toward each other in the process. While in clinical rotations student show this positive behavior and respectfulness to all patients and clinical, part time instructors to deliver outstanding patient care.

Students are tested on all exams to mimic the national board exams. These exams ensure that they prepare the students for actual exams. In addition to regular class learning exams, students are given a practice board exam that is created by their credentialing body. These exams show the student what areas of learning they are weak in and how to better prepare themselves for their board exam. The areas of testing include: data collection/information gathering, equipment management, and clinical practice related to the future roles they will take on as new respiratory therapists.

Clinical instructors also have a competency based performance exam that is given individually in a clinical setting to ensure clinical skills are adequate.

Part 5: Additional Action Plan in Support of Student Learning (If Appropriate)

Upcoming YearChanges Planned for the upcoming yearData Motivating this change
2021-2022
We just added the Kettering book and study material into student fees to allow for students to better prepare for board exams. This software and book shows the most up to date information of the board exams and allows a precise study guide for the exam. There are practice exams and simulation questions included in the purchase.
Typically we see a 90% success rate of passing board exams and we would like to increase that number to 100% passing rate.
2021-2022
We have taken CoArc evaluations and board test scores in sub categories to see what areas graduate students have had the most trouble with. We have added more information and resources into our curriculum to better serve these needs.
CoArc evaluations and low board test scores in sub categories.
