Part 2: Program Summary

Provide a high level review of the program to include highlights, successes, challenges, significant changes, and significant resources needed to support the program
CNM's nursing program has experienced significant challenges with student recruitment. The Summer 2023 cohort was small, with only 54 students plus 7 LPNs. One section of NMNC 1135 was canceled due to the small cohort, and one section of NMNC 1235 was canceled in Fall 2023 as the cohort moved forward. The program director worked with MCO to identify additional potential applicants for the Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 cohorts, and those students were contacted by email and/or text message and invited to apply to the program. Both Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 were close to filling the 96 seats available in addition to up to 16 LPNs.

Summarize how your program met or did not meet the target measures based on the data above
The Nursing program is a large program, graduating over 200 students per year. While the number of declared majors has dropped since the pandemic, Nursing remains a strong draw for students, providing strong employment prospects and a comfortable living wage with an Associate's degree. The Nursing program plans to hire additional full-time faculty for Spring 2024 so that the majority of clinical courses and all didactic courses will have a full-time faculty lead. Part-time faculty are assigned to clinical courses to provide ratios of 1:8 as required by New Mexico Board of Nursing rules.

Interpretation of Assessment findings
GLOs reflect HESI exit exam scores in specific categories relating to the specific learning outcome. Only categories with a question n value of greater than 30 have been chosen in order to provide statistically valid data. The exception is GLO 6, technology, as there are very limited numbers of categories available within the HESI E2 Exit exam for evaluation. The data is less statistically valid because of the low question n values, so the ELA is set to 65%. Number of students at threshold is used as the criterion due to the group effect of using cumulative averages. Students are meeting GLOs 1 and 4 at rates higher than 75% and (GLO 6) at greater than 65% in objective (HESI exam scores) Criteria. Subjective (clinical summative evaluations) criteria meets expectations. GLOs 2, 3, and 5 have fallen below benchmark, and faculty will be working to address issues that may have led to this outcome.
