Part 2: Program Summary

Provide a high level review of the program to include highlights, successes, challenges, significant changes, and significant resources needed to support the program
Over the 2022-2023 cycle there have been several significant changes in our program. We are now running about 90% of our theory courses in a synchronous face-to-face format. The remaining 10% have been intentionally left asynchronous at the paramedic level. All lab courses are fully synchronous and face-to-face. Additionally, our program director and interim clinical coordinator both opted to step-down to focus solely on teaching. Therefore, we installed a new program director that is also the interim clinical coordinator. We continue to struggle with staffing courses, despite hired 6 new PT faculty in fall 2022. However, we anticipate hiring another FT faculty and 6-8 PT faculty in fall 2023 for a spring 2024 start. In spite of these changes and difficulties, we are diligently working to increase enrollment and ensure the next generation of EMS professionals are well prepared to care for their communities.

Summarize how your program met or did not meet the target measures based on the data above
Though our program has remained above the minimum thresholds, we are diligently working to ensure we stay there. • Class fill rate is well above the minimum threshold at 79% • Annual retention rate remains well above the minimum threshold at 89% • Annual C-pass rate remains well above the minimum threshold at 82% • Though our graduate rate has steadily declined the past few years, we are still above the minimum.

Part 4: Program Learning Outcome Analysis

Learning OutcomePopulation or Course(s) AssessedDescriptionSummary of Assessment Results
1. Part A: Affective Domain
EMS 1493, and EMS 1890
  • Clinical Practicum Evaluation
  • Instructor Observation
  • External Evaluator
Students are evaluated multiple times during the semester by lead and adjunct faculty in EMS 1493. They are further evaluated on every clinical/ field shift in EMS 1890. All students must be successful on these evaluations to graduate.
9. Part B: Psychomotor Domain
EMS 1493 and EMS 1890
  • Practical Exam
  • Clinical Practicum Evaluation
  • Instructor Observation
  • External Evaluator
Students are evaluated in numerous psychomotor skill testing evolution throughout the EMS 1943 course. Further, students are evaluated by clinical/ field preceptors while performing these psychomotor skills in the clinical/ field setting. Students must successfully complete the required psychomotor evaluations to graduate.
18. Part C: Cognitive Domain
EMS 1412
  • Final Exam
  • Test or Quiz
Students mastery of the material is evaluated in multiple quizzes and exams during the semester in EMS 1412.
Interpretation of Assessment findings
All three of these program learning outcomes are requirements for the successful completion of the EMT-Intermediate program. Therefore, they are tied together with our program success rates as noted below. • Fall 2022, we had a program success of 20/22 students for a graduation rate of 91%. • Spring 2023, we had a program success of 10/12 students for a graduation rate of 83.3% • In Summer 2023, we had a program success of 7/9 students for a graduation rate of 77.7% Though our enrollment has steadily declined, we have maintained graduation rates above the minimum threshold. I attribute our reduced EMT-I registration to a couple things. First, numerous students are not stair stepping their way up the EMS licensure spectrum. Instead they are opting to save time and money going straight from EMT-B to paramedic. Second, there are a few of the services that offer their own EMT-I courses. Thus fewer students are seeking enrollment in our program.
