Part 2: Program Summary

Provide a high level review of the program to include highlights, successes, challenges, significant changes, and significant resources needed to support the program
Surgical Technology is a program that is greatly needed by the community. CNM is not producing enough graduates to fill the needs of the local community or the state. We have a class capacity of 12 students per cohort. The graduating class of Spring 2023 had a 72% pass rate on their board exams and Summer 2023 had a 56% pass rate on their board exams. These classes exceeded the clinical case requirement set by accreditation. During this time frame, we sent out Graduate (2022-2023) and Employer surveys (2021-2022). We had a 100% return rate on graduate surveys with a 98% satisfaction. Employer surveys had a 80% return rate with 100% satisfaction. This meets the benchmark of 50% return with 80% satisfaction. The program continues to struggle with retention. We started with 23 students and graduated 16 giving us a 70% retention for the year. Employment rate was 14 out of 16 graduates found employment in the field giving us 88% employment rate. The students not working are continuing education.

Summarize how your program met or did not meet the target measures based on the data above
The Surgical Technology Program met all thresholds. ST graduated 16 students in 2022-2023. There were 17 graduates in 2021-2022, and 7 graduates in 2020-2021. The number of declared majors has increased in 2022-2023 at 163 up from 157 in 2021-2022. Down from 192 in 2020-2021. We don't know where these students are in their education. Although we struggled in Summer 2023 to fill the class, our average class size has bounced back to 22.4 in 2022-2023 up from 21 in 2021-2022 and 22.5 in 2020-2021. The annual C-Pass met the threshold set by the college, increased to 79%. The average class fill rate is showing signs of recovery increasing to 80% in 2022-2023 from 75% in 2021-2022. Student retention continues to be a challenge but maintained a 70% retention rate in 2022-2023.
