Part 2: Program Summary
Provide a high level review of the program to include highlights, successes, challenges, significant changes, and significant resources needed to support the program |
---|
The learning outcomes assessed for 2022-2023 were as follows: 5) Modeling ecological patterns, 6) Communicate effectively, and 7) Collaborate with peers to accomplish tasks. Learning outcomes 5, 6, and 7 were assessed in 2110L (Cell and Molecular Biology Lab) through a common lab practical exam question and completion of a 4-week experiment that culminated in writing a scientific lab report. In addition, learning outcomes 1) Learning outcomes Learning outcome 6) was assessed by a discussion/homework assignment. The student success rate was high on all outcomes. |

Summarize how your program met or did not meet the target measures based on the data above |
---|
The program data shows all targets were met and exceeded for the Biology AS degree. The average class fill rate increased by almost 10% from the previous academic year. The annual C-pass rate also increased slightly from the previous two academic years. Lastly the average class size also showed a slight increase. |
Part 4: Program Learning Outcome Analysis
Learning Outcome | Population or Course(s) Assessed | Description | Summary of Assessment Results |
---|---|---|---|
5. Model ecological patterns | BIOL 2110L |
| This outcome was assessed by a question on a lab practical. 18 students took the lab practical and 15 answered the question correctly. |
6. Communicate effectively | BIOL 2410L. |
| Students completed an online discussion to complete this learning outcome. A total of 27 students completed the assignment and all 27 received a passing score. |
7. Collaborate with peers to accomplish tasks | BIOL 2110L. |
| This outcome was assessed by a 4 week project that students completed in groups. At the end of the project students completed a scientific lab report. 18 students completed this project and all 18 received a passing score. |
Interpretation of Assessment findings |
---|
Overall, students performed well on each learning outcome. For two of the outcomes we had 100% of the students complete the outcome successfully. For the third outcome assessed the passing percentage was 83%. |
