Part 2: Program Summary

Provide a high level review of the program to include highlights, successes, challenges, significant changes, and significant resources needed to support the program
The program continues to see steady enrollment and retention of existing students; which is a good sign even when considering the improved overall enrollment at the college. This biggest challenge has continued to be the outdated labs and equipment that the students have to work with, most of which is over 20 years old and well past the point of needing to be replaced. Instructional support for this concentration has also been historically lackluster, as is evident by the lack of any significant changes being made despite full-time instructor feedback. In spite of these ongoing challenges, the program has remained strong and steady with regard to enrollment and retention with a large number of students going on to get a job in the electrical industry after completion of the certificate.

Summarize how your program met or did not meet the target measures based on the data above
All day time sections of theses classes meet the listed criteria. Only the sections held at night have failed to meet the average class fill rate at 60% or above capacity. I am not sure why classes are being held at night with only one student, as I have no control over this factor.

Part 4: Program Learning Outcome Analysis

Learning OutcomePopulation or Course(s) AssessedDescriptionSummary of Assessment Results
4. Students are given assignments/projects that are directly related to practical application in real world situations. The students must resource information and determine a correct method to complete assignment/project.
Third term electrical trades students enrolled in Electric motor control theory.
  • Class Project
  • In-class Activities
  • Homework Assignments
  • Instructor Observation
Students continue to develop the relevant skills necessary to become successful electricians through practical projects/activities that help to reinforce industry practices.
Interpretation of Assessment findings
This methodology has proven to be invaluable for not only assessing the students' learning outcomes, but also as mentioned before, as a reliable way to introduce and reinforce practical skills and industry practices as they relate directly to the course learning outcomes.
