Part 2: Program Summary

Provide a high level review of the program to include highlights, successes, challenges, significant changes, and significant resources needed to support the program
The MLT program is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS). In the spring of 2023 the program submitted a self-study and for fall 2023 the program is undergoing a site visit. Challenge from 2021-2022 academic year was getting qualified part-time applicants for faculty postings. I am happy to announce we have hired three new faculty who are onboarded and available to begin teaching. Current challenge: The number of students attempting the national certification exam has increased, however, the scores are lower than previous years. Assessment of ASCP scores from 2017 to 2021 showed that Chemistry is the subject with the lowest overall average. Two changes are being implemented in Clinical Chemistry Theory (MLT 2011) for the 2023-2024 academic year to address this concern. 1. Modification of the schedule to allow students more time with complex concepts. 2. Faculty review of student learning activities and assessments to ensure they match course objectives.

Interpretation of Assessment findings
Action Plan from 2021-2022: Implementation of structured study groups with a focus on the national exam. These will be conducted during the summer term as part of the MLT 2712 Advanced Topics and Exam Prep course. Data Motivating this change: ASCP National Certification scores less than 400. 400 or higher is required to pass. 2022-2023 ASCP scores indicate that focused study groups have brought scores above the 400 minimum passing score. In-person, focused study groups will remain a part of the MLT 2712 Advanced Topics and Exam Prep course course activities.

Part 5: Additional Action Plan in Support of Student Learning (If Appropriate)
