Part 2: Program Summary

Provide a high level review of the program to include highlights, successes, challenges, significant changes, and significant resources needed to support the program
The most notable accomplishment for the medical assistant (MA) program in 2023 was our successful initial accreditation site visit. This represents a stabilization of the program in the new school of Nursing & Patient Support. The smaller school size and increased number of associate deans has helped the MA program correct curricular and procedural gaps that had been holding us back in the past. While the full-time team has not been as stable as we would like, we are making solid progress creating a supportive culture for the full- and part-time faculty members.

  • Clinical Practicum Evaluation
Preceptors provide input into the students' final evaluations. Students are mentored and supervised by professionals in the field in real-work situations throughout this final clinical course. This precepted experience assesses students' ability to synthesize the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to be successful as an entry level medical assistant. Over 98% of students entering the capstone course go on to complete the program. The final evaluation tool does need updating to include better capturing and quantifying of the end of program student learning outcomes.
