| 3b. Personal and Social Responsibility: Sustainability and the natural and human worlds | |
|---|---|
| Describe the change that was implemented. | Results were too narrow a sample of data since the results were only from 1 course section. The results show that the goal was met. Hopefully, this will be the case in the future, when we connect the Sustainability Quiz to our Brightspace Master Shell, to include many more sections of data. |
| Type of Change |
|
| Change in Assessment Approach or Tools? | The change will require the a different assessment approach. The assessment will not come from one faculty member concerning one class section. The assessment will be completed in Brightspace with all course sections copied from the master shell, BHT-CNS-BCIS1110-MODULES-M. |
| What data motivated the change? | Not enough data available to make a change. We need a wider data set and ability to access the results. Therefore, I contacted Anne Key to request the Sustainability Quiz to be connected from our Master Brightspace Shell. BHT-CNS-BCIS1110-MODULES-M |
| Hypothesis about the effect the change will have? | The planned changes will give access to a larger data set (data from all instructor courses for the Sustainability Quiz will be available, since their courses are copied from the Master Brightspace shell. BHT-CNS-BCIS1110-MODULES-M) |
| 3d. Personal and Social Responsibility: Collaboration skills, teamwork and value systems | |

Both assessments (Security Discussion and Sustainability Quiz) went up to 94%, which exceeded our set goal of 70%.
Describe long-term changes in the program(s) that the assessment process led to, and what motivated those changes?
It led to an update of BCIS 1110. Faculty removed an outdated social media unit and replaced with AI Scam Awareness topics that benefit community safety. All of these topics are related to computer security (which was one of the assess topics).
What did you learn about the teaching and learning of "Practicing Community" in your programs?
BCIS 1110 students demonstrated strong collaboration, social responsibility, and sustainability awareness. Average performance at 94% exceeded the 71% goal. The results confirm that students successfully practiced community principles through teamwork and ethical discussions. The awareness of sustainability practices can lead to community impact.
Describe any external factors affecting the program or affecting assessment of the program.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has impacted all technology courses and we have to adjust. Faculty removed an outdated social media unit and replaced with AI Scam Awareness topics that benefit community safety. All of these topics are related to computer security (which was one of the assess topics). Our Fall 2024 Advisory Committee Meeting topic was AI. We were able to ask questions of our advisor committee members like "How are you using AI in your job/company?How do you expect to use AI for the future? What kind of AI would help your job/company in the future? What are the challenges/obstacles in your
field/industry are you facing in relation to AI? What are the benefits of utilizing AI?". Then we were able to take this valuable feedback on how AI is being used currently in the advisory community and help plan and adapt our courses for the future.
