| Learning Outcome (or Gen Ed Essential Skill) | Focus Area |
|---|---|
| 7. Create WAN environments implementing appropriate protocols for current networking technologies. | Can students create WANs and implement protocols within WANs? |
| 9. Problem solve and troubleshoot data networks. | Are students able to troubleshoot and problem solve within a given network? |
| Learning Outcome (or Gen Ed Essential Skill) | Description of Assessment Tool | Population or Courses Assessed | Hypothetical Analysis/Target |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7. Create WAN environments implementing appropriate protocols for current networking technologies. | Students design a network which includes protocols for communication and implement the network using packet tracer. | CIS 2999 | At least 70% of students should be able to achieve mastery of this item. |
| 9. Problem solve and troubleshoot data networks. | Students will implement a network and achieve end-to-end communication of the network using troubleshooting tools and methods. | CIS 2999 | At least 70% of students should be able to achieve mastery of this item. |
| Learning Outcome (or Gen Ed Essential Skill) | Summary of Results | Reflection on Focus Area | Intepretation of Results |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7. Create WAN environments implementing appropriate protocols for current networking technologies. | 100% of students were able to master creation of WANs and implement the appropriate protocols. | The results support the question. | The results show students were able to master creation of WANs and implement the appropriate protocols. |
| 9. Problem solve and troubleshoot data networks. | 100% of students of were able to troubleshoot and problem solve within a network. | The results support the focus area question. | The results show that students were able to master troubleshooting skills. |

|---|---|---|---|
| 7. Create WAN environments implementing appropriate protocols for current networking technologies. | 100% of students were able to create WANs and implement the appropriate protocols. | Will students perform as well when the capstone is in person using real equipment versus the simulation application | |
| 9. Problem solve and troubleshoot data networks. | 90% of students were able to troubleshoot and problem solve within a network. | Will students be able to troubleshoot at the same level using real equipment versus simulation software? |
Describe any change in student achievement observed as part of this assessment process, and what led to those changes.
No changes were seen during this part of the assessment process.
Describe long-term changes in the program(s) that the assessment process led to, and what motivated those changes?
Students will be required to perform the capstone exam on real equipment to elevate skill level using equipment that mirrors that of industry.
What did you learn about the teaching and learning of "Practicing Community" in your programs?
Despite the use of discussion boards, virtual environments may still fall short in fostering the meaningful connections students need to thrive in the program. To address this, the program should prioritize integrating additional tools and strategies that actively promote community-building within courses.
Describe any external factors affecting the program or affecting assessment of the program.
Students are completing the capstone for the program virtually. This is making evaluation of students skills difficult and does not provide the same level of hands-on observation needed that an in-person experience would allow. Reliance on asynchronous submissions in this program may not capture the depth of students’ skills and may skew actual results.
